Demystifying Google Webmaster Tools Reports, Part 1 - ClickZ - 0 views

  • The "Status" column will contain either a green checkmark graphic or a red "x" graphic. This tells you whether your file is valid (green checkmark) or invalid or missing (red "x"). Remember that a green checkmark does not necessarily mean that all your URLs are correct or indexed. It means only that the site map file you submitted contains valid XML.

Web Analytics for Social Media - ClickZ - 0 views

  • How Do You Measure Social? Some great tools can help you monitor the online conversation, ranging from free (e.g., Google Alerts, Technorati Watchlists, FriendFeed, Yahoo Pipes, etc.) to, uh, committing (e.g., TruCast, BuzzMetrics, Cymfony). The more expensive tools are worth what they cost, but the free tools are easy to set up and, well, they're free. And sometimes getting started is the biggest hurdle. You may just want to get something going on the cheap, show the value of your effort, and lobby for a robust, programmatic solution to monitor online activity and engage your customers where they hang out. You'll be surprised how much you'll learn, and you'll probably really enjoy it. The real challenges aren't technological, but operational. You have to define the right governance policies to manage customer engagement through social media, and you have to build the right workflow to prioritize responses, route information to the right people, and manage your content even as you release it into the wild. Employees need encouragement to participate, and they need clear guidelines about exactly when, how, and where to get involved. It takes effort, but the payoff can be tremendous. So don't stop at measuring your marketing efforts' success, or even the sentiment expressed in the broader online conversation about your brand. It's great to monitor online activity, better to develop reporting around online activity, and better yet to engage customers in their native online habitats.

Analytics Tips for Setting up Google +1 - Search Engine Watch (#SEW) - 0 views

  • New Data Nuggets Web analytics may not necessarily need another metric but +1 button promises to help measure engagement. Official details on what data will stream from Google's +1 button are not available yet, but Jim Prosser from Google confirmed to SEW that "we're bringing data to Analytics, Webmaster Tools, and AdWords frontend soon". Nontheless, there are methods of tracking +1s to your pages. By writing your own Javascript function, you can track +1 clicks as a Google Analytics event using _gaq.push() and use GA's standard reporting functionality.  All-in-all, the +1 button will now become another micro-conversion that may provide insight to how your site is performing and how users are engaging with your content.

  • Focusing too much or solely on organic will present long-term growth roadblocks as local organic real estate continues to disappear and become more volatile
  • A typical unified local SERP campaign will include: Optimized GMB listing
  • Online reputation strategy (responding to reviews is just as important as gaining new ones) Google Local Services Ads (if applicable) Geo-focused PPC strategy (see below – use PPC to supplement organic visibility) Retargeting (GDN, YouTube, social channels) Local link building (referral traffic is going to be the new DA) Aggregated reporting Citations and NAP consistency

  • City-level keyword tracking does not tell the whole story and may be resulting in a distorted or limited view of data.
  • Once you have a better understanding of the client’s visibility in local and organic, you can create a strategy to utilize PPC to supplement visibility in zips where the client does not have organic reach
  • If they are not in the map pack or the top five in organic, the client will essentially be invisible in local search.
